1. Vinegar Descaling Method
White vinegar is a powerful natural descaling agent that effectively removes tough limescale deposits.
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water and fill the kettle halfway.
Boil the solution, then turn off the kettle and let it sit for 15–30 minutes.
Pour out the liquid and rinse the kettle thoroughly with clean water.
Boil plain water once or twice to eliminate any residual vinegar smell.
This method is ideal for kettles with heavy limescale buildup and offers excellent results.
2. Lemon or Citric Acid for a Fresher Alternative
If you’re looking for a more pleasant-smelling method, lemon juice or citric acid works just as well.
Slice one or two lemons and place them in the kettle.
Fill it with water and bring it to a boil.
Allow the solution to sit for 15–30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
Alternatively, you can use 1–2 tablespoons of citric acid powder instead of lemon slices and follow the same process. This method leaves your kettle smelling fresh and looking clean.
If your kettle has mild residue or a lingering odor, baking soda can help gently clean and deodorize it.
Add 1–2 tablespoons of baking soda to water in the kettle.
Boil the solution and let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
Use a soft sponge to scrub the inside if needed.
Rinse thoroughly to ensure no baking soda remains.

4. Don’t Forget the Exterior
While cleaning the inside is crucial, maintaining the exterior of your kettle keeps it looking new.
Always unplug the kettle and allow it to cool before cleaning.
Use a damp cloth with a little mild soap to wipe down the outside.
