Here’s the complete recipe for cooking couscous using an electric water kettle.
Step 1: In a heat-resistant bowl, pour the contents of the instant couscous pack. Bring the water kettle of water to the boil. Pour the hot water over the couscous. The hot water should cover the couscous completely. Now, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. If you don’t have olive, use any oil that doesn’t have a strong flavour. Add lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Stir to ensure everything mixes well. Cover the bowl tightly with a cellophane sheet and set it aside for 10 minutes or until all the water is absorbed by the couscous.
Step 3: Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, chop your favourite vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes. Add fresh herbs like coriander, parsley, celery, or cilantro. You can also add a few mint leaves for that distinct minty fresh flavour. To add crunchiness, you can add your favourite dry fruits like walnuts and almonds.
Step 4: Now, in a mixing bowl, mix the couscous and all the other ingredients. To lend your couscous some creamy texture, you can also add feta cheese. If you don’t have feta cheese, home-made cottage cheese can also be used. Crumble the cheese before adding to the couscous.
Step 5: Taste and adjust the seasoning as per your preference. Serve it in a salad bowl. Garnish with chopped coriander or parsley.
